    Sure, Simon’s quest had its flaws, specifically the nonsensical and unhelpful clues, sparse boss fights, and a completely nerfed Dracula, but it was still fun to play and had one of the best soundtracks in the series. Bloody Tears and the theme that plays when you finally reach Castlevania at the end are two of the best tracks in the franchise. Plus, without Simon’s Quest, we wouldn’t have gotten Symphony of the Night.

    "if anyone in chat is continental european feel smug and superior to the british" - bopper. it's like you don't know us at all. that is the default state. well ok technically the default is being smug and superior to the english (it's not coming home and it never will) and pitying towards everyone else on the island. truly they're taking this one for the team I really like (??) how the bodies keep getting stuck on you so you drag them, ragdolling, for a couple seconds. it's really funny. until you get to the spider mosquito head guys. those sucked Let's hope I can catch you live next time!

    Souls games slowly moved away from it's uniquenes, and more about mashing your circle button And now I gotta keep hearing the same corny "flawed masterpiece" and "git gud" argument from players that missed the whole point of these games. (Yes being difficult was A part of the game, not THE part) Apparently it's okay to critique dark souls 3 and it's grey and gross color palate, even tho the theme is the end but blood bourne, even though it's the same gross color palate,you guessed it beautiful world because apparently you can overlook that when inspired by HP Lovecraft So if we were to exclude subjectivity as much as we possibly can, and remove the artistic styles of Lovecraft and the medieval ish fantasy, then you're left with the same, gross, color palette But one is bad, and the other is a flawed masterpiece In the same breath these "git gudders" will say that BB has the best combat, while giving you literally Less weapons AND less play styles How is it the best?Because you have a gun? Even tho it functions as a perry, something available since inception. Because it's fast paced? Something that became a staple to every game after? So what about if I wanna have a tank build or magic? Oh how dare i of course this is the best combat I perry and mash circle! It's different While I don't like elden ring much at all either, the combat in that game is so obviously leagues ahead But I still hear nerds talk about BB game play, because that's the proper acceptable opinion After that, all souls games have been pattern recognition and mashing circle It wasn't that in Demons or DS1 It can be if you choose so But go ahead and tank in ds3 or elden ring lol If stripping down your game into, mashing circle at the right time, is a flawed masterpiece, then ninja gaiden 3 on NES is the greatest video game ever made

    You hit the nail on the head with the lack of the cool factor. All the cool pokemon I want to travel with come in way after the fact and that's really feels like we have nothing new to work with in Gold and Silver. What is there before game's end you have to jump through hoops to get which would be more fun if there was a better mix of cool new pokemon to catch outside of the hoops .

    One who’s used to organic healthy food enjoys the taste of it tremendously and finds fast food repulsive naturally and without effort in resisting it, at the same time people who get used to eating processed fast foods enjoy the taste of it to the point of addiction and find healthy foods to be tasteless and obnoxious while also being economically disadvantaged due to their rarity and the difficulty in their production. But the problem with fast food is that it’s destructive to the health of the person and the society, not only due to its lack of nutrients but also because it contains harmful elements, which inevitably causes epidemics of stupidity, a deficiency in manners and morals lasting for generations, due to an obesity of the soul and cancer of the intellect

    I love Pokemon stadium 1&2. One can play red..blue...and yellow Using the transfer pak And can trade with other players using another transfer pak etc. You can also save your Pokemon to it as well. Part two can play both gen one and gen two.. As well as the other features. Save batteries have been a thing for awhile. Nes carts like Zelda used them. Basically ant cart style game that saved has them. Pokemon stadiums have them. You can get the battery changed at most retro game stores. Or buy the batteries.. Small circle batteries with metal arms. Buy a Nintendo screwdriver And do it yourself. I still play the Pokemon stadium games and the family games..its fun to play it with other people.

    Crystal is the only one of the 3 that you can catch a Teddiursa before the 1st gym instead of having to reach Blackthorn City like you do in Gold or Silver can’t remember which version it’s exclusive too. I’ve mostly played Crystal as a kid and adult but I had all 3 games. My first 3 games were Red, Yellow and Silver

    As someone who also got into a lot of Final Fantasy with the GBA remakes, I had almost the exact opposite reaction to Vivian regarding the Pixel Remasters. I feel like a lot of that added content was designed to require a lot of deep knowledge about optimization, including avoiding levels at all costs in 3 and 6 until you have the good classes/espers to get better stat growths, or sequence breaking for early Mysidia to deck out Minwu being required in 2. If you knew about that content and wanted to beat it, it felt like the only option was starting a new playthrough and looking stuff up. I prefer letting that stuff be unnecessary optimizations and removing that anxiety the whole game. I know that's slightly a me problem, but what am I supposed to do, not beat the challenge dungeon they put in front of me?

    I feel like it wouldn't be too hard to add a satisfying easy mode to Sekiro with any/all of: automatically upgrading tools, unlimited stored emblems/pills (them being limited seemed inconsequential outside of it triggering hoarder instinct), increased exp gain (maybe also highlight a recommended upgrade path), giving perilous attacks different symbols if they're a grapple or mikiri counter, letting bosses friendly-fire their goons, highlighting recommended tools for the area and making the deflect window slightly more generous. Preferably with a toggle for each. There were a number of bosses that would have caused you a lot more trouble if it weren't for chat recommending a tool (firework vs. ape, umbrella vs. Isshin) or confirming whether an attack was mikiri-able, also you said yourself that you'd probably have beaten Isshin a day earlier if you'd known about a specific level-up perk, that's the sort of guidance that an easy mode should provide instead of tweaking any damage or health values in a game as tightly choreographed as Sekiro. Hell, add a hard mode for sick freaks that disables lock-on, removes cues for perilous attacks, tightens the deflect window and adds 50% more apes. Also there should be a sword-length slider.

  • @shawesomegaming7672
    @shawesomegaming7672 4 дні тому

    I’ve gone through this and the previous video twice each now and I must say that I absolutely adore how you go about analyzing these games. You talk about a number of things the average player never even considers, while also doing the work to tackle assumptions about the games that have become all but fact to most. It is incredibly well researched and a treat to see! And as a fan of Johto more than most other games in this series, I do like how you pointed to the intended playstyle of the game being different from how later games are. Really drives home a disconnect between how people look back at these games and the issues with using only a modern lens for that. Also, must say, seeing Etrian Odyssey be used here both for visual examples and for the background music is quite nice! Going off your love of the quirks of the games (Gen 1 and 2) so far, I’ll hazard a guess that the 2nd EO is your favorite?

    • @easy_nin
      @easy_nin 4 дні тому

      All the EO stuff was actually my idea and 2 is my least favorite lol. I just had footage of it for the "grinding" example on hand. You only get something like "capturing" a new "Pokemon" in EO4 anyway, which I really liked as an alternative option. If you're curious, I'd spontaneously say my ranking is Nexus>4>3>5>1(R)>2(R). Back to your Pokemon point, I think you're right with saying that most people accept one thing as a fact instead of looking for alternative ways to play. And points like "I want to have my favorites on Route 1! It is bad design!" doesn't really count for the old games because you weren't supposed to know which Pokemon are in the game and they are designed for a "first playthrough" and rumors between friends.

    How am I just now learning the Bopper is from KY? I lived there for a number of years because of my Mom's family. I also enjoyed the politics talk abt consumerism and the exploitation of the global south + drug abuse and decriminalization. In the U.S., part of the reason drug penalties are as strict as they are has to do with voter suppression, the war on drugs, and the introduction of crack cocaine into black communities by the CIA (!!) in addition to the role those laws play in ensuring a steady stream of slave labor to the prison industrial complex.

    The modern idea of game balance is too heavy handed and reduces every game to an arbitrary standard of fairness and usability that no one has ever proven is necessary to make something FUN. Who cares if its cohesive, balanced, or even properly coded if its fun? For some reason the philosophy of game design has determined it needs to be hyper-rational just like how we scrutinize theories of reality to be rational or else they are invalid, but we can make them whatever we want! We dont even have to necessarily adopt induction into our reality or continuity, we could literally change the rules on the fly and break it the way our true reality cannot, its a video game. We should design for fun, not to be the God of virtual design beholden to some arbitrary outside standard. We should just have fun.

    I saved my Silver cartridge... I bought a backup tool that let me create a save of the game data, then I opened the cartridge up, swapped out the battery (to restore the game clock) and copied back over the data. Did the same thing with Blue and Sapphire... but I'm so happy newer generations don't need to worry about that anymore.

  • @angelnickl

    To be honest, never heard the slander against Gen 2 until brought up in this video. Then again I don't hang out in the circles that may have come up with faulty thinking. Gen 2 was always great to me and post game Kanto is something that I have been wishing for every single gen. Gen 2 is a monolith that all pokemon games get compared to for me, especially with the remakes, and it may be the reason each new gen is always met with minor disappointment baked in. I don't mind being the minority in these thoughts and appreciate your video.

    VII is still the only Classic FF (1-9) that I HAVEN'T played. That will be corrected soon, but until then I shall skip that part of the video, even though I already know most of the major spoilers. VIII was my first Final Fantasy, and it will always hold a special place in my heart because of it even though there are several I like more. Ironically, watching Spoony's shallow takedown accidentally taught me how to actually play the game and enjoy it properly, so a bit of poetic justice for VIII there. IX is my favorite of the series bar none. It is (mostly) perfect for me. My only real issue is that some of the story beats around Disc 3 feel kind of rushed and unfinished compared to the fantastic buildup previous and decent finale afterwards.
